The Washington Capitals enter the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the top seed in the East, but now, the status of two key players remains up in the air with just a matter of days before the post-season officially begins.

This season has been a wild, historic ride for the Washington Capitals, and now that history has officially been made and Alex Ovechkin has celebrated his incredible milestone, all attention turns to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and a potential matchup with the Montreal Canadiens.
Unfortunately for Washington, there's a major injury cloud hanging over their heads, with both star goaltender Logan Thompson and forward Aliaksei Protas in doubt for Game One of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with injury.
When asked about their status, Head Coach Spencer Carbery didn't have an update, revealing that it's 'too early' to discuss their official status for the post-season, which starts in less than two weeks.
"We'll see next week. I think both are progressing. We'll see how it looks next week, but too early to talk about two weeks from now or ten days or whenever we start."
While it's not entirely positive, at the very least, neither have been ruled out for their first series, and even if they can get back to 80% health, they'll be significant upgrades on the roster.
There should be many more updates on both players between now and when the regular season begins, and while Washington have an incredibly loaded squad that can compete for a Stanley Cup in 2025, their chances at getting Ovi his second ring improve exponentially if both players can be back on the ice for game one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
