Today, Montreal Canadiens beat reporter John Lu reported that Carey Price would travel with the team on their road trip to New York, but not with intentions of playing. Price will be meeting with the doctor that conducted surgery on his right knee last off season.
Being almost 35 years old, battling a nagging knee-injury, and his sobriety, it's remarkable that Carey Price was able to make a comeback this season. To see him back on the ice was great for the team and the fans, but perhaps not the best for Price himself.
Head coach Martin St.Louis' comments seem to indicate that the Habs staff knew Price was never in game shape, and that's raising questions about his future. With the backdrop of a similarly sidelined Shea Weber, some are wondering if this is the end of Carey Price's career.
Price has 4 years remaining on a $10.5M dollar contract, but as seen with Shea Weber, it's possible that Price could be a member of the LTIR until his contract expires. It was wonderful to see one of the most respected goalies in the game make a comeback after a brutal season, but it may have also been his swan song.
