Ross Colton's wallet is a little lighter thanks to the NHL's Department of Player Safety. The Colorado Avalanche forward has been fined for a trip on a high-profile rookie.
During the third period of last night's game against the Anaheim Ducks, Colton performed a trip on Leo Carlsson that DoPS considered illegal.
"Colorado's Ross Colton has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for a dangerous trip on Anaheim's Leo Carlsson."
The league did not release video of the play. Carlsson was fine, as he scored the game winner in a shootout.
