Tim Peel is a name that has become synonymous with the National Hockey League, albeit for all the wrong reasons. Peel, of course was the referee that got caught on a hot mic saying he wanted to give a penalty to the Nashville Predators back in 2021 and was later fired by the NHL as a result.
Recently, Peel was on the Nasty Knuckles podcast and he opened up about the incident and the fallout; take a look.
Tim Peel talks about the hot mic situation
Peel opens up about the incident and the days that followed, first by saying that the words that came out of his mouth and what he meant were vastly different things, while mentioning that only 3 penalties were called between Nashville and Detroit that night.
Peel continues by saying that while he wrote a note to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly to clarify his comments but he was told to fly home the morning after the game and he knew that this mistake would be the end of his career, a moth before he was supposed to retire.
While the way peel opens up about the event is commendable, there was really no other option but to fire him, no matter his explanation, you can't make a mistake like that on national T.V and expect to keep your job.
