The Edmonton Oilers and restricted free agent forward Kailer Yamamoto have avoided their scheduled arbitration hearing on Sunday, by agreeing to a two year contract with an AAV of $3.1 million.
The 23-year-old winger is coming off a nice bounce-back year that saw him put up 20 goals and 21 assists in 81 games. He only managed 8 goals and 21 points during the 2020-2021 season.
Yamamoto will be an RFA with arbitration rights after the 2023-2024 season.
The new contract makes Yamamoto Edmonton's sixth-highest paid forward, slotting in just ahead of Jesse Puljujarvi, who signed a one-year, $3 million deal last week.
With Yamamoto now signed, it's puts the Oilers over the cap by $6,031,333. GM Ken Holland will have to be creative to get the team cap complainant before the season starts.
