A men's university hockey team in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is being forced to sit out the entire 2023-24 season. The University of Northern Colorado Bears made the announcement on Twitter today, saying it is going to appeal the ruling.
When asked why the entire team was suspended, the UNC Bears X account said it was the result of a league investigation.
"Our team was investigated and faced allegations from the university regarding underage drinking and hazing. We are currently working to appeal those allegations as we feel the punishment does not correspond to our actions. We appreciate any support."
It is worth noting that UNC isn't denying the allegations, but believes the punishment to be too harsh.
Hazing and excessive partying are things the hockey world has been trying hard to eliminate over the past few years. Despite that, incidents keep popping up from time to time.
