Former 1st round pick has his NHL contract terminated and then signs to play in Switzerland
After having his contract dismissed last week, Riley Sheahan has signed a new contract in Switzerland. Sheahan's contract was terminated after refusing to report to Rochester in the American League.
It appears that Sheahan's career in the NHL is over. The former first round pick skated in six hundred thirty seven career games and recorded one hundred ninety-four career points. Sheahan bounced around during his career he skated with six different clubs including Detroit, Pittsburgh, Florida, Edmonton, Buffalo, and Seattle.
For being a first round pick, Sheahan did not put up big offensive numbers. However it is difficult to even make the National Hockey League. To play in over six hundred career games is an accomplishment in itself. Sheahan isn't ready to give up on hockey and call it a career either. Like a lot of other older veteran players, Sheahan is extending his career by playing in Europe. It doesn't hurt playing in a beautiful place like Switzerland either.
