Former NHLer and brother of Hall of Famer makes an interesting career change
Former first-round pick Marcel Hossa has been retired from professional hockey for five years now, but has turned his attention to a new sport - Boxing.
This weekend, Hossa made his debut and won in the third round of his fight after his opponent was disqualified.
After the fight, Hossa spoke with Sport.Sk, a Slovakian media outlet, to discuss his efforts in his debut.
"Regardless of the outcome, I've already won by stepping into the ring. Suddenly I was boxing in the winter, where I experienced many great moments, mainly with the national team. It's something else entirely. I'm glad for this experience," Hossa said. The Ilava native spent parts of six seasons in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Phoenix (now Arizona) Coyotes, where he had 61 points (31 goals, 30 assists) in 237 games.
It'll be interesting to see where boxing takes Marcel Hossa and when his next fight will be, if he continues to pursue the sport at a high level.
