Giroux is the second leading scorer in franchise history (to Bobby Clarke) and is in the final year of his $8.275M AAV contract. At 34 years old and with the Flyers clearly in a rebuilding mode, there's no question that the he'll be wearing a jersey other than the orange and black sooner rather than later.
Giroux has a No-Movement Clause that allows him to have a say in where the Flyers ultimately trade him and, according to Avs Insider Adrian Dater, Giroux has notified the Flyers' GM, Chuck Fletcher, that his clear number one destination of choice is Colorado, followed by Minnesota or St. Louis.
Flyers staff -- including newly appointed Special Assistant to the GM, Daniel Briere -- are already very actively scouting the Avalanche and their farm team, the Colorado Eagles, in preparation for a potential transaction.
The timing of all of this is interesting, too, as Giroux is closing in on a milestone with the Flyers. As Jamey Baskow of Flyers Nitty Gritty pointed out on the weekend, Giroux is just 13 games away from reaching 1000 in the city of brotherly love.
The Flyers visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night in a game in which Sidney Crosby will be chasing a milestone of his own; career goal number 500.
