Goaltender blinded by on-ice lights allows ridiculous goal
Recently in a European professional league, a ridiculous goal was allowed to stand after a light show blinded the goaltender. According to reports from the TV4 Hockey account, the light show blinded the goaltender directly in the crease for 23 seconds before the goal was allowed.
The video below shows the absurd visual - the goaltender in the crease, being blasted with bright lights directly into his eyes, waving to the referees to stop the play.According to TV4 hockey, the goal was allowed to stand, likely because the lights stopped moments before the goal was scored. Still, the goaltender and the post game show clearly believe the play should have been stopped when the goalie began waving towards the referees.
It's really an absurdity the goal was allowed to stand, and that the arena staff made such an error and impact on the actual play on the ice. Hopefully, we'll never see anything like this in an NHL game, and if we do, they make the correct call to overturn the goal.
