It was reported at the beginning of July that the Vancouver Canucks and forward J.T. Miller were working on a contract extension. J.T. Miller currently has one year left with a cap hit of $5.25Milllon. He is coming off a career season where he put up 99 points in 80 games. Needless to say Miller is looking for a raise but he and the Canucks were initially far apart on what that contract would look like. So then trade rumours started to circle that the Canucks were shopping Miller as his value has never been higher. Now according to his agent everything has changed again.
J.T. Miller's agent, Brian Bartlett, recently spoke to Harman Dayal with The Athletic and had the following to say.
I do think there's a realistic path for an extension with the Canucks. J.T. loves it in Vancouver. He feels like the team is improving, he loved his role there, his family likes the city. He would be on board with an extension. The part that we can't answer is at what value or level the team places on him. From our end, from J.T.'s end, there's a path forward on an extension, but it takes two to tango, I guess.
It seems as though Miller wants to stay with the Canucks. Miller's team has given the Canucks a contract proposal but both sides could not see eye to eye on it. J.T. Miller is a solid top 6 forward who has been the Canucks most consistent forward since arriving there. Depending on what he is asking, the Canucks would be wise to re-sign him.
