Jacob Trouba explains what being named captain means, and proves he's a great choice
Jacob Trouba was named Captain of the New York Rangers this morning, much to the surprise of many fans. Many fans felt Chris Kreider was the natural selection, but ultimately the Rangers chose to go a different direction. After announcing that Trouba had been named Captain, the Rangers released a video message from Trouba.
In the video Trouba beautifully details what being the Captain or the New York Rangers means and why it was so important to him to honour the players before him.
It's a huge honor and something that means something, especially here in this organization. The history and the past players who have been captain before me.
As a kid, I grew up watching Leetch and Messier, Drury and Jagr. Those names were all very prominent to me when I was a kid. And then come here, you learn more about the history of the guys who were here before. You see the pictures and the jerseys.
Now it's my turn to carry the legacy on for those guys.
It's clear from Trouba's comments he doesn't just look at this move as a simple addition to his uniform. He clearly respects the names who have worn the letter before he did. This level of respect helps embody the perfect aspects of a leader.
