Free Agency began on July 13th and nearly a month later many players remain unsigned. The lack of movement has left some talent very frustrated with the lack of options. One name remaining on the market is former New Jersey Devils' defenceman, PK Subban.
Despite the regression in his play, Subban is still a very good defenceman. Subban has fallen off significantly from his Norris Trophy days, but he is still responsible in his own zone and makes a good first pass. Subban also still has one of the best shot in the NHL.
When free agency began Subban had his eyes set on a multi-year deal, but now it appears he could be willing to take a low salary one-year deal with a contending team. One of those teams with interest appears to be the Edmonton Oilers.
As per Kurt Leavins, the Oilers are still connected to Subban, as they've been talking internally about adding a depth, veteran defender. Subban has asked for more money, so it'll be interesting to see if the Oilers can make some room.
After the Oilers made a run all the way to the Western Conference Finals last season. Now, Oilers General Manager, Ken Holland is looking to supplement the core of his team as much as possible. With Jack Campbell in net it appears the Oilers are making attempts to improve the defense.
