Major update on William Nylander's contract negotiations
Earlier this summer it felt like a foregone conclusion that William Nylander had played his final game for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Rumors swirled that Nylander had made a contract demand of over 10 million per season. A contract the may believes weren't even willing to consider.
At the beginning of July it seemed like every day was filled with a new rumor about the negotiations. Lewis Gross, Nylander's agent, is known for these sort of tactics. Recently, however, things have quieted down substantially. A positive sign for the Maple Leafs.
Now approximately a month after the last update on the deal The Leafs Network is reporting that contract talks that has once installed are now back in full swing.
Earlier this summer there was William Nylander being discussed as a prime trade candidate after it was obvious the two sides were quite far apart on a new contract extension. While there seems to still be a gap, from all accounts the contract talks are trending in a positive direction.
The Maple Leafs are a much better team with Nylander versus without, so find a way to get a deal done makes sense for everyone. The only real question at this point is whether or not the Maple Leafs will allow this to drag into training camp or not.
