It was another disappointing playoffs for the Toronto Maple Leafs, they lost again in the first round yet again, this marking the fifth straight year. Fans in Leafs Nation are clearly frustrated and beginning to demand change. During the end of season press conference, Maple Leafs President of Hockey Operations, Brendan Shanahan revealed that both Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Keefe would return for next season.
So that means the off ice line up won't change, but what about on ice? Leafs' General Manager, Kyle Dubas shared the following:
There's no secret the Leafs are up against the cap as it is and with the Leafs hoping to re-sign pending free agent, Jack Campbell the Leafs are clearly going to need to get creative. This likely means they'll have to move out a player with a significant cap hit. One rumour that seems to never go away is surrounding William Nylander.
However, the rumours of the Leafs trying to move Nylander, could be shifting from rumour to reality in the coming months. According to Stephane Waite, a former Montreal Canadiens goalie coach, he shared the following:
Nylander, 25, was taken 8th overall by the Leafs in 2014. Nylander had a career year this season, scoring 34 goals and adding 46 assists for an 80 point season in 81 games.
