Matthew Tkachuk returned to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday night, for the first time in opposing team colors. Tkachuk was greeted with a variety of emotions, including a relentless chorus of boos whenever he touched the puck and a series of cheers that evolved into a standing ovation as a video tribute was played for the agitating superstar.

Things were going Calgary's way to start the game, holding a commanding 3-0 lead as time winded down in the first. With a little over a minute left in the period, Tkachuk was called for cross-checking on Flames defenceman Nikita Zadorov. Emotions got the best of Tkachuk as he's seen flipping the puck towards Zadorov in frustration.

This puck flip had shades of a similar incident involving Tkachuk. As Jake Muzzin once flipped the puck at Tkachuk, which led to a major rift in the Flames locker room after no teammate came to his defense. It's fitting that Tkachuk would think flipping a puck back would be a good idea, because he's clearly that kind of petty.

Tkachuk and the Panthers would go on to lose 6-2 on the night.
Tkachuk shared his reaction post game:
«I was looking forward to this game,» Tkachuk said postgame, «It wasn't like we talked about earlier, like I needed this game to close the door on my history here. That wasn't the case at all. That door was closed a long time ago. But it's always going to be nice coming back here and playing for the rest of my career.»

Tkachuk on hearing the boos:
«I've basically seen them do it to multiple guys that used to play here throughout the league,» Tkachuk said, «I don't know — you guys decide that.»
