Earlier today Mike Babcock stepped down as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets just a week before training camps are set to open. This comes after an investigation was launched into his conduct during player meetings in which players felt uncomfortable.
Now, Babcock has released his own statement and to say it's underwhelming is an understatement. Time and time again, he refuses to accept any responsibility for the situations he puts plays and organizations in; take a look.
"Upon reflection, it has become clear that continuing as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets was going to be too much of a distraction. While I'm disappointed to not have had the opportunity to continue the work we've begun, I know it's in the best interest of the organization for me to step away at this time. I wish everyone in the organization well in the upcoming season.
Babcock refuses to acknowledge any of his wrongdoings in this statement, instead opting to paint the situation as a distraction. Every time he's been given an opportunity to take even a shrewd of responsibility, he doesn't.
At this point, the National Hockey League is better off without Babcock in the league. The game has passed him by, the way he conducts himself doesn't change and if this statement shows anything, it's that he is incapable of acknowledging that he can do anything wrong.
