For many NHL Insiders and those pretending to be them, the Toronto Maple Leafs are a team known to draw in attention. For that reason, sometimes, NHL insiders will share completely bogus content about them, just as the Hockey 24/7 account on Twitter did last night.
On the side of the Leafs, they would be letting go of a proven star forward in his prime, while the team is aiming to compete for a Stanley Cup. In return, they'd acquire a goalie who has been a liability for years while having a solid goaltending tandem this season, and a developing player likely signed to an overpaid contract in the much-hyped Trevor Zegras. On the side of the Ducks, they would be trading one of the young and marketable faces of their franchise, along with their only competent goaltender, for one year of William Nylander on a team not competing for the playoffs.
Truly, it's an astounding trade proposal in the fact that every asset included would make little to no sense for either team. But how else would hockey accounts farm for interactions on Twitter if they're not posting intentionally obtuse content?
