With the trade deadline less than two weeks away, executives and scouts from around the NHL have ramped up their research into other teams. Executives usually like to trade with other executives that they have a good working relationship with. The Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins have a connection in each other's management teams which may be pointing to a trade.
On Wednesday night the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Florida Panthers and one person in attendance stood out. Derek Clancey, who is now an Assistant General Manager with the Vancouver Canucks, was previously with the Pittsburgh Penguins between 2007 and 2021. Most recently Clancey was the Director of Player Personnel for the Penguins before joining the Canucks organization.
Derek Clancey is very familiar with the Penguins roster, making them an ideal trading partner. With Canucks forwards J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser and Conor Garland recently being mentioned in trade rumors, could one of them be traded to Pittsburgh?
