Radko Gudas explains why he didn't want to sign with a Canadian team
Radko Gudas became an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and many were wondering where his next destination may be. Florida more than likely would have wanted to retain him, but Gudas opted to sign a three-year deal with the Anaheim Ducks.
In a recent interview with Czechia media outlet Denik Sport, Gudas said he had interest from a trio of Canadian teams - Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto. But because of the pressure that comes with playing for a Canadian franchise, Gudas said he didn't want to sign with a team north of the border.
During their second round series against the Maple Leafs, Gudas said he could feel the media pressure in Toronto, even though he played on the other side.
The 33-year-old played a big role defensively to help the Panthers reach their second Stanley Cup Finals appearance in franchise history where they ultimately lost to the Vegas Golden Knights. During the regular season, he appeared in 72 games, putting up 17 points.
While it's understandable that he doesn't want to face the media pressure in Canada, he certainly would have had a better chance at making the playoffs with Calgary, Edmonton or Toronto rather than with the Anaheim Ducks.
