The Detroit Red Wings and Dylan Larkin may be headed for an ugly separation
The Detroit Red Wings and their captain Dylan Larkin have been discussing a new contract for sometime now but multiple reports have claimed that the two sides remain far apart .
The 26 year old is in the final year of a five-year, $30.5 million contract. While his salary cap hit is $6.1 million, he is earning $5.25 million in actual dollars this season. He also owns a full no-trade clause.
The Red Wings recently presented Larkin's camp with a new offer – believed to have been presented this week – and it was «not received well,» according to David Pagnotta of the 4th period
Larkin is having another solid season in Detroit scoring 15 goals and 41 points in
44 games. He averages 19:51 in ice time, playing in all situations for head coach Derek Lalonde.
The Fourh Periods David gives his take the situation
While I don't know where each side stands, I'd imagine the young star centre is looking for at least $8 million on an AAV, and I'd wager Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman is not currently primed to give Larkin north or that or anything around $9 million per season.
With the NHL trade deadline looming on March 3rd Yzerman and company will need to make a huge decision on the franchise's future.
