Hockey Team Forfeits Game After Their Locker Room Gets Robbed In The Middle Of A Period
A hockey team in Germany has forfeited a game after they discovered that their locker room had been robbed in the middle of a period.
The Monday, December 30, 2024, incident during the Oberliga-Nord match between ESC Wohnbau Moskitos Essen and Hammer Eisbaren has been observed and assessed in an official manner by the management of the DEB-League.
After written statements from both clubs had been presented and personal discussions held with each of them, the league fixed the game score to 5-0 in favor of the Essen team according to Art. 24, No. 1 of the DEB-Game rules.
The decision was communicated in writing to both clubs, as well as in direct consultation with league officials.
It was an incredible incident in which the Hammer Eisbaren did not come back onto the ice after the second intermission. The reason given was that valuables had been stolen from the guest locker room.
«The team of Hammer Eisbären did not return to the ice after the second break of the game in question. It was therefore not possible to continue the game. The reason given by the Hammer Eisbären the theft of several valuables from the guest locker room. At the end of the second break, the DEB-League management was informed of the situation. A 45-minute extension of the period break was then granted before the game was to be continued. This did not happen even after the deadline had passed.
The present matter was discussed both personally and after written statements from both clubs involved by the DEB-League management recorded and evaluated as stated above. Both clubs have received a corresponding written statement from the DEB on the game score and were also personally informed of the decision by the league management.
This decision can be appealed against within two weeks to the match court of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) be requested.»

Management of the DEB-League were informed immediately, and a 45-minute extension of the intermission was granted to resume the game.
The Hammer Eisbaren did not come out onto the ice even after the expiry of the extended intermission.
As a result, the game was forfeited in favor of ESC Wohnbau Moskitos Essen. Should either team want to appeal against the decision, they can appeal to the match court of the Deutscher Eishockey-Bund (DEB) within two weeks.
