The Washington Capitals lost a defenseman to an injury for the remainder of the playoffs, according to an official team statement.
Alexander Ovechkin notably scored two goals, including the first of the series and the overtime goal, once again showing no sign of slowing down at 39 years old:
With many players playing a physical and sometimes dangerous game,
the Caps will hope to be able to count on all their players for their whole playoff run.
Unfortunately, today, they announced that one of their players won't be able to be in uniform for the rest of the playoffs due to an injury.
Indeed, in an official post on X, the Caps announced that the defenseman
Martin Fehervary was injured in his right knee at the end of the season in a game against the New York Islanders. He underwent surgery yesterday and will be on the Injured Reserve for the whole playoffs.
"Washington Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary sustained an injury to his right knee during the April 15 game against the New York Islanders. Fehervary underwent a successful surgical procedure yesterday to repair the meniscus and will miss the rest of the playoffs."
Fehervary, 25, took part in 81 games with the Caps this season, tallying five goals, 20 assists, and a +18 goal differential.
He brought a lot of stability and consistency to the Caps' blue line, and his absence will be felt for the series against the Habs.
He played a valuable role for his team in last year's playoff run, scoring three points, including two goals, in four games.
It's a tough loss for the Capitals, but as we saw in game one against the Canadiens, others took their game to the next level.
