According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Winnipeg Jets are set to acquire restricted free agent defenceman Dylan Coghlan from the Carolina Hurricanes. The return in the trade is not yet known.
Coghlan, 26, has spent the last two seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes organization after being traded to them in the Max Pacioretty deal back in June of 2022. The Duncan, British Columbia native spent the majority of the 2023-24 season in the American Hockey League with the Springfield Thunderbirds where he had a big year, putting up 41 points (16 goals, 25 assists), 40 penalty minutes and was a minus-13 in 61 games.
With the Winnipeg Jets losing Brendan Dillon and Nate Schmidt to the New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers, respectively, this week in free agency, the team needed to add a bottom pairing defenceman and that's exactly what they did by bringing in Dylan Coghlan.
