Today, Team Canada's women's hockey team played the Czech Republic, and won the game 5-1, but it came at the expense of their best player and captain.
Marie-Philip Poulin is one of the greatest Canadian hockey players of all-time, and her various accolades speak for themselves.
Having said that, in 2026, she and her Team Canada teammates are trying to win gold all over again. They won their first game 4-0 against Switzerland, and today, they beat Czechia 5-1.
Unfortunately, things are not going to get any easier for Team Canada thanks to a gnarly hit in the first period of today's game.
Poulin had to leave the ice, and while she attempted to come back, it was clear that she was not good to continue. She was eventually ruled out for the rest of the game.
Marie-Philip Poulin's status gets an update
After the game, fans and the media were looking for answers, with many wondering whether or not Poulin would be good to return on Tuesday against Team USA.
Unfortunately, the answer from Canadian head coach Troy Ryan was not good. It does not appear as though there is a concrete update on Poulin's condition.
Head Coach Troy Ryan didn’t have an update on Marie-Philip Poulin’s status following Canada’s 5-1 win over Czechia.
No news on whether the Captain will be available vs USA on Tuesday.
No news on whether the Captain will be available vs USA on Tuesday.
The hope is that Poulin can at least play in the elimination round. Canada still has to play the United States and Finland in the group stage.
This is a big deal for Team Canada, who lean on Poulin for lots of guidance. She is considered to be the team's rock and guiding light.
We wish Poulin the best of luck going forward. There is no denying that she is an intregral part of this Team Canada team.
