Brad Marchand opens up about vacant captain role in Boston
With Patrice Bergeron retiring from hockey this summer, not only did it leave a massive hold down the middle in the Bruins lineup, it also left them without a captain. But that could change ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Several Bruins players gathered at their practice facility on Tuesday for an informal skate and afterwards, Brad Marchand was asked by reporters about the potential of being the team's next captain.
"It's not something that I really think about too much. We've always done it collectively as a group. So regardless of who wear it, it's a collective thing." Marchand said.
Marchand, 35, is the longest serving Bruin on the team's roster as he's set to enter his 15th NHL season, all with Boston. The Halifax native seems the likely choice to become Boston's next captain, especially given his role in the their leadership group he's held over the last few seasons.
If Marchand isn't named the team's captain, there are really only two other options on their roster - David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy, both of whom will be apart of the leadership group going forward regardless of who wears the 'C'.
The Boston Bruins will open training camp in roughly two weeks before kicking off their 100th season in the National Hockey League on October 11th against the Chicago Blackhawks.
