Brad Marchand Panthers are playing in Boston tonight for the 1st time since his trade to Florida, but he appears to hint at a potential return to the team.
The Brad Marchand era with the Boston Bruins is over, as he was traded in a stunning deal to the division foe Florida Panthers at Friday's Trade Deadline.
It ended Marchand's tenure with the Bruins, which began as a rookie in 2010-11 and resulted in the franchise's 1st Stanley Cup victory since the early 1970s.
Marchand also helped the Bruins to another pair of appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, a new NHL-record 65 wins in 2022-23, and was named captain of the team after the retirement of Patrice Bergeron.
Tonight, Marchand's Panthers face the Bruins at TD Garden in what will be nothing short of a raucous atmosphere. But before the game, he appeared to leave the door open to a future return to Boston.
I mean, I don't know - I guess, is how I would respond. I don't know what the future brings in terms of how it plays out in the summertime. I know it didn't come together. Now can things change down the road? Potentially, but that's to be seen. So I am sure we'll have a conversation down the road, but I don't know where that goes.
Additionally, Marchand said that he doesn't feel he needs to adjust his playing style with the Panthers, who already have a pair of notorious pests on their roster in Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett.
I don't think I have to change to fit their game. I think I've played that way for my entire career. They play a competitive, hard style. They play simple, they compete at the highest level and they're winners.
Marchand has 47 points (21G, 26A) in 61 games and is playing in the final year of his current contract; he can become a free agent this summer. But first, he will try and help the Panthers win back to back Stanley Cups for the 1st time in team history.
