Singer attempts to explain his awful rendition of O Canada and Leafs-Panthers game
Canadian fans in attendance at a recent game between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs were treated to perhaps one of the worst version of O Canada ever produced at a hockey game. The singer, who was apparently a last-minute replacement, completely butchered Canada's anthem, forgetting the lyrics and going off tune in several places. Fortunately for him, he was saved by the Leafs fans in attendance , who helped him complete the song.
The singer has been revealed as Ryan Michael James, who said he had just two hour to learn O Canada before appearing on a national broadcast.
I found out two hours before that I was actually going on. I had two hours to learn the national anthem for Canada, of which I was not familiar with before doing the gig.
James said he was also told the lyrics would be displayed on a screen while he was singing.
They were not. As much as I rehearsed it, I panicked and couldn't get back to where I needed to be.
In an interview with City TV, James apologized for mixing up the lyrics, insisting it wasn't on purpose.
Canada, I am so sorry for flubbing the lyrics. I promise it was not intentional.
Even though James did a horrid job with the Canadian anthem, at least he owned it and apologized, for that, he deserves respect.
