Tuesday night was a triumphant one for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who defeated the New Jersey Devils despite missing guys like Auston Matthews and William Nylander.

Last night's game between the New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs was shaping up to be a disaster of epic proportions. Why? Well, Chris Tanev, Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Dakota Joshua were all out of the lineup.
It felt like an inevitability that the Leafs would lose. However, Joseph Woll stood on his head, and the rest of the roster played the best 60 minutes of their lives.
Once again, the Maple Leafs' power play was clicking, and it felt like a continuation of what we have seen since the firing of assistant coach Marc Savard.

Marc Savard gets cooked by Toronto Maple Leafs fans

In fact, during last night's game, Savard was the victim of various unsavory comments on social media. With the team struggling under his guidance, some fans believe he was the problem.
Since firing Savard, the Leafs have only lost one game, and it was in overtime. Not to mention, their power play has undergone a complete transformation.
When you watch the power play now, it is clear that the Leafs are trying to get more shots on goal than before. Under Savard, they made way too many passes.
Some fans even remarked that it felt like Savard was some sort of double agent sent by fans of the Boston Bruins to mess up the Leafs' chemistry.
Of course, many of these comments are just Leafs fans being Leafs fans. This is the kind of discourse that takes place in this market.
On Thursday, the Toronto Maple Leafs are set to take on the Winnipeg Jets, and it will be interesting to see if the team is able to put on a similar performance to Tuesday.
From there, they will play the New York Islanders on Saturday, which will prove to be yet another interesting test of their mental fortitude in the post Savard era.
