Earlier today, it was revealed that Auston Matthews was suffering from an injury, and now we know if he will play against the New Jersey Devils.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews has been officially designated as unavailable against the Devils tonight.
This morning, it was revealed that Matthews had suffered an injury against the Detroit Red Wings and that it would cause him to be a game-time decision.
It was a devastating turn of events for the Leafs, and just before game time, the worst-case scenario was confirmed.
This is just more bad luck for the Maple Leafs, who are also without Chris Tanev, Dakota Joshua, and William Nylander for tonight's game.
Overall, it is starting to feel like everything is going against the Leafs right now, and that they just can't win. The injuries are almost insurmountable.

Can the Toronto Maple Leafs overcome the injuries

At this stage in the season, the Toronto Maple Leafs are last in the Atlantic Division, and they are extremely close to being last in the Eastern Conference.
Given this team's payroll and the expectations, anything short of the postseason will be seen as a colossal failure.
However, the big issue is very simple here. If you can't string wins together, you aren't going to get into a playoff spot, and the injuries are not helping.
General manager Brad Treliving wants the Maple Leafs to be a buyer at the trade deadline, but if they continue to lose, that just won't be possible.
It is a difficult situation for this team, and some truly massive decisions will have to be made in the next few weeks and months.
Winning solves a lot of these problems, and that is what Leafs fans will be hoping for as the New Year ushers in very soon.
