Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews is struggling right now, and after another bad game from the Maple Leafs, he came through with some motivation.
Auston Matthews has not been good enough this season, and everyone watching the Toronto Maple Leafs can see it. He has 23 points in 30 games, and he didn't get a single point during the team's three-game road trip.
Now, the Maple Leafs are second-to-last in the Eastern Conference, and it feels like this season is all but lost. It's a horrible situation to be in, and there is now speculation that Craig Berube could be fired.
The team's problems start at the top of the roster, and with Matthews and William Nylander struggling, it is hard to imagine this team getting any better.
After a 5-1 loss against the Dallas Stars, the team was feeling dejected, and Auston Matthews did his absolute best to make something positive out of a bad situation.

While speaking to the media after the game, Matthews explained how the Maple Leafs can get through this difficult stretch of hockey.
Sure, it is the thought that counts, but his message is one filled with platitudes. It is simply hockey speak, and there is no real plan of action for his teammates to grab hold of.
"We gotta pick each other up and grind through this. We're going to start to get those breaks," Matthews explained.
The Maple Leafs are a directionless team right now, and if the best scorer in hockey can't even average a goal every two games, then what exactly is going on here?
Something needs to be done. Whether that be a trade or a coaching change is totally up to general manager Brad Treliving. However, it is clear that fans will not tolerate this for much longer.
On Tuesday night, the Maple Leafs will play the Pittsburgh Penguins, and that will be a major litmus test for whether or not the Leafs can turn things around.
