Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has made some mistakes, and the Montreal Canadiens just exposed how bad it has been at times.
The Toronto Maple Leafs need to make some trades right now, especially with the Maple Leafs playing some of their worst hockey of the season.
Last night, they missed out on some deals as Phillip Danault went to the Montreal Canadiens, and Mason Marchment went to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
However, the Danault trade is now putting Treliving under the microscope for some poor asset management that will give Leafs fans some PTSD.
Brad Treliving gets called out
Sid Seixeiro took to X, where he noted that the Habs got a great center for a second-round pick, while Treliving gave up a third-round pick for Matias Maccelli, who has not played since November 28th.
The Canadiens spent a 2nd round pick on a centre they know really well who needed a fresh start.
The Leafs spent a 3rd round pick on Matias Maccelli who's not trusted by a single head coach in the league.
Toronto's asset management has been shocking.

Toronto's asset management has been shocking.
Things get even worse when you think about how the Maple Leafs completely overpaid for Scott Laughton and Brandon Carlo.
Matias Maccelli and Scott Laughton have been failures
Aside from Maccelli, the Scott Laughton trade was truly shocking from Treliving. They gave up a first-round pick and Nikita Grebenkin for someone who can't get points consistently.
Meanwhile, they gave up another first-round pick and Fraser Minten for Brandon Carlo, who has yet to truly make a big impact with the Leafs.
It is getting to a point where the Leafs' failures are becoming extremely hard to ignore. At some point, Treliving has to answer for all of this.
If the Leafs continue to struggle as the season goes on, then perhaps Treliving's job with the team will be on the line.
