The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing a crisis right now, and on '32 Thoughts,' Elliotte Friedman confirmed everyone's worst nightmare about this roster.

On Saturday, the Toronto Maple Leafs hit a definite low point in their season as they lost to the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 5-2, in what was a horrible showing.
After the game, there were conversations about head coach Craig Berube and whether or not he should be fired. Meanwhile, the fanbase had smoke for general manager Brad Treliving, who hasn't done enough to make this team contend.
No matter how you swing it, the Leafs are in a bad spot. They are in last place in the Eastern Conference, and while they are a winning streak away from being in a playoff spot, their current issues suggest rock bottom is still on the horizon.
Not to mention, on the latest episode of '32 Thoughts,' Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman delivered a truly devastating report on the team's locker room.

Elliotte Friedman offers sobering take on the Toronto Maple Leafs

As Friedman explained, the coaching staff and front office had been panicking. While they refused to admit to this, it was evident that panic was creeping in.
Now, Friedman believes the Leafs locker room is in full panic mode, and Berube has effectively lost the locker room. Once you lose the locker room, it's hard to get it back.
Before it was creeping into the Leafs room... now it's there. I already felt it in the organization. You could feel it on the coaching staff, but it's always different to me when it's in the room. Coaches are pessimists, they're born to be pessimists. Front offices, they're always pessimists. Players are the optimists.
Friedman's co-host Kyle Bukauskas backed him up on this, noting that the Leafs' players are very clearly worried about their situation.
When you said to me on Sunday you see it seeping in, that's when I get worried for a team. The dressing room, if it goes, it's the last place to go.

The Toronto Maple Leafs schedule only gets worse

The Maple Leafs' situation is only going to get worse over the course of the next week. We say that because they have to deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday, a team that has had their number over the past two seasons.
Moreover, the Leafs also have to play the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes, and Florida Panthers. These are some of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
More losses are on the horizon, and it just feels like the Maple Leafs are being given very few opportunities to work themselves back into the playoff mix.
