Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is not well-liked by the fans, and his latest comments about Hockey IQ and the NHL at large will only make it worse.
Mitch Marner has become a pariah in Toronto ever since leaving the team in free agency and signing with the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
The Golden Knights are playing well right now, and for all intents and purposes, the team is a Stanley Cup contender. Although, as we know, Marner's playoff performances haven't exactly been exemplary.
In a new video posted by the NHL on social media, the former Maple Leafs superstar showed off his arrogant side, much to the chagrin of the Toronto faithful.
Mitch Marner talks Hockey IQ
In the video, Marner was asked about Hockey IQ and who he believes has the best Hockey IQ in the NHL. Right off the bat, he answered Sidney Crosby, which is the correct response.
Eventually, he mentioned the likes of Aleksander Barkov, before derailing everything by also noting himself. Sure, he's a great playmaker, but considering no other player in the video said themselves, you can't help but feel like Marner is being a little too brazen here.
Not to mention, it's hard to say you have the best hockey IQ in the league when you are making the kinds of mistakes he made on Saturday night, to lose his team a game in overtime.
Mitch Marner's stats have been just okay this season
If you have been paying attention to the Las Vegas Golden Knights this season, you would have noticed that Marner's production has been just okay so far.
Through 22 games, he has 21 points, which is less than a point-per-game pace. Furthermore, of those 21 points, he has only four goals, which is below a 16-goal pace.
Last season, Marner had 27 goals and 75 assists for 102 points. This season, it doesn't feel as though he is going to be able to reach those heights.
