Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies has been out with an injury for over a week, and with the Leafs taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets, there has been hope for a return.

For the last week or so, Matthew Knies has been absent from the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup, and it has certainly proven to be an issue for the roster.
The team needs Knies. He is one of the best players on the team, and with 22 points in 19 games, he remains one of the most productive guys on the entire roster.
Tonight, the Leafs are playing the Columbus Blue Jackets, and there has been this hope that he would be able to return and give the lineup a confidence boost.

Is Matthew Knies playing tonight?

While speaking to the media in Columbus on Wednesday, Knies made the announcement that he would, in fact, be playing against the Blue Jackets.
It was here that he revealed the nature of his injury and why he chose to take some time off from the game he loves so much.
Matthew Knies is set to return tonight. Says the lower-body issue he had been dealing with first popped up a month ago. Came to the realization he was going to need some time to let it recover. Says he's confident it's healed enough to make an impact.
This is going to be a huge help to the Leafs, who have lost seven of their last eight, and have also fallen to last place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Matthew Knies trade rumors begin to bubble

This announcement comes in the midst of trade rumors, which started a few weeks ago as the Toronto Maple Leafs were showing interest in Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson.
Since that time, the rumors have now shifted over to Quinn Hughes. On TSN 1050 "OverDrive" last night, Bryan Hayes suggested the Leafs should trade Matthew Knies for Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks.
At this juncture, Knies is one of the few untouchable players on the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs have no plans to trade him, and we double general manager Brad Treliving will change his mind on that.
