Toronto Maple Leafs forwards Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies are dealing with injuries, although there was this sense that they could be back as soon as tomorrow.

Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies are two of the most important players on the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially when you consider their status as top-line guys.
Unfortunately, both linemates have been dealing with injuries over the past couple of weeks, and it has kept them out of the Leafs' lineup amid some pretty horrible struggles.
The team has lost seven of its last eight, and with the Columbus Blue Jackets coming up on Wednesday, the Leafs could certainly use some extra firepower.
On Monday, it was suggested that both Knies and Matthews could return to the lineup tomorrow night. However, there was certainly some cautious optimism in that regard.

Auston Matthews & Matthew Knies injury updates at practice

On Tuesday, that optimism went out the window. At practice, Matthews, Knies, and Nicolas Roy were all wearing grey jerseys, which suggests they will not be in the lineup.
Of course, their presence at practice is certainly a nice sign, and should fill some fans with some hope that good news could be on the horizon, eventually.
For now, however, fans will just have to get used to the idea that two of their best players will not be in the lineup on Wednesday night, unless something drastic changes.

Toronto Maple Leafs injuries aren't getting any better

The Matthews, Knies, and Roy news should not be that surprising to anyone who has paid attention to the Maple Leafs for any extended amount of time this season.
There have been numerous injuries so far. For instance, guys like Anthony Stolarz, Chris Tanev, and Brandon Carlo also remain out of the Leafs' lineup.
This has been a huge reason for the Leafs' struggles, and it remains to be seen whether or not this is something the team can overcome.
