After missing nearly one year of game action due to an injury he sustained in the off-season, Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray appears to be ramping back up for a return.
On Saturday morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that Murray has been assigned to the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies on a conditioning stint.
"The @MapleLeafs have assigned goaltender Matt Murray to the @TorontoMarlies on an LTIR conditioning loan." The Maple Leafs said.
Because the move is classified as an LTIR conditioning loan, according to TSN's Chris Johnston, Murray is only allowed to be in the AHL for six days or three games. The Marlies play tonight and then again on Wednesday.
"Since Matt Murray is on an LTIR conditioning loan, he's permitted to remain with the Marlies for a period not to exceed the longer of six days or three games.
The Marlies play tonight in Syracuse and then Wednesday at Rochester." Johnston said.
Murray, 29, underwent bilateral hip surgery prior to the start of the 2023-24 season. Last season, he appeared in 26 games for the Maple Leafs where he had a record of 14-8-1 with a 3.01 goals against average, a .903 save percentage and one shutout.
