Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi made a critical error on Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and fans have been out for blood ever since.
Max Domi was a double agent on Thursday night as he made a terrible pass in overtime against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The pass was intercepted by Adam Fantilli, who went on to score the game-winning goal.
It was yet another bad moment for Domi, who has just six points in 21 games this season, and has not been able to find a solid role on the team.
For the Leafs, this was their sixth loss in seven games, and the fans are starting to get fed up as it becomes clear that this roster just isn't good enough.
Max Domi owns up to his catastrophic mistake
After the game, Domi made it abundantly clear that he understands he messed up here. He knows that this play was a bad one and that he needs to be a whole lot better going forward.
You (try) a play like that, you have to make it. That's 100 per cent on me.
While the humility will certainly work on some of the Maple Leafs fans out there, some have lost faith in Domi entirely, especially with his contract coming into focus.
Max Domi contract continues to look bad
Last season, Domi began the first year of a four-year deal worth a total of $15 million. This means the forward is currently making $3.75 million per season. That is just $500K less than John Tavares.
However, Domi's production has been nowhere close to where it needs to be when you consider how much he is making relative to everyone else on the team.
This salary has also made it hard to trade. There are very few teams that would want to take on a deal that rich when the guy had just 33 points last season.
Domi is going to have to figure it out here, and if he doesn't then this season may go off the rails, very fast.
