With the Toronto Maple Leafs free-falling in the Eastern Conference standings, head coach Craig Berube has made a decision that will raise some eyebrows.

Toronto Maple Leafs fans are not happy with the team right now, and it is easy to see why. Everyone is injured, and they have lost seven of their last eight.
The rest of the league is passing them by, and they are two days removed from a horrific loss to the Montreal Canadiens, in which they laid an egg in front of their goaltender.
Now, they are about to embark on one of the most difficult stretches of their season. They have the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday, before playing the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, and Carolina Hurricanes.
The team is getting three days off between games, and as it turns out, head coach Craig Berube is making some unique decisions during this time.

Toronto Maple Leafs players get a day off

According to David Alter of The Hockey News, the team's most utilized players had a special off-ice workout on Sunday.
As a result, guys like John Tavares, William Nylander, and even Morgan Rielly got to have the day off from practice, while everyone else was asked to show up.
It is unclear what this workout entailed, although Berube seems confident enough to give his guys some time off before this road trip continues.

Toronto Maple Leafs fall in the standings

With the team's loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, the Leafs are now last place in the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference at large.
Luckily for the Leafs, they are a three-game winning streak away from clawing their way back to third place in the Atlantic Division, which would put them in the playoffs.
There are still 60 games left in the season, and the Leafs can still find their way back to the top of the Eastern Conference standings. However, it's not going to be easy. First, they need to get healthy.
