Numerous former Toronto Maple Leafs players are currently playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, and as it turns out, a few are now on the trading block.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be looking to add to their team at the trade deadline, and there is no denying that Brad Treliving will have to make some tough decisions.
Interestingly enough, the Chicago Blackhawks are in a similar position, although some believe they could be sellers, yet again.
What is interesting about the Blackhawks, from a Maple Leafs perspective, is the fact that the team is populated with guys who used to play in Toronto.
In a new report from David Pangotta of The Fourth Period, three of those players are currently on the trading block.
Nick Foligno, Ilya Mikheyev, and Sam Lafferty are trade chips
These players are Nick Foligno, Ilya Mikheyev, and Sam Lafferty. All three of these forwards are having difficult seasons, with Mikheyev leading the pack with just 14 points.
They've got a few veteran pieces that I think a lot of teams are interested in; Connor Murphy...he is available, Nick Foligno...a UFA, Jason Dickinson, Ilya Mikheyev and Sam Lafferty as well
For the Toronto Maple Leafs, it is extremely unlikely that Treliving would target any of these players and attempt to bring them back into the fold.
At the end of the day, the Maple Leafs are in desperate need of a bolstered defense. A right-handed puck-moving defenseman is at the top of their list.
Meanwhile, it would appear as though the team would also like to add a first-line winger. For now, these depth players just aren't in the cards.
Going forward, it will be interesting to see what becomes of these former Leafs stars and if they do end up getting a deal at the deadline.
