Last night the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames agreed on a blockbuster dead that sent Elias Lindholm to to the Canucks in exchange for Andrei Kuzmenko, a prospect and draft picks, but it fell apart at the last minute.
According to Rick Dhaliwal and NHL trade alerts, Flames defender Chris Tanev was almost included in the deal , but the Canucks didn't want to give up an additional first round pick.
According to @DhaliwalSports Calgary wanted another 1st for Tanev to be involved in this trade and that's where it broke down. #flames #canucks #nhl
With this trade, the Canucks have signalled that they're going all in to make a run this year, while an additional first round pick going to Calgary would've been a lot, if they were truly going all in and they had an opportunity to acquire Tanev and didn't, that might come back to haunt them.
It feels like Canucks are taking a shot at a deep run in the playoffs, not acquiring Tanev might end up being a huge mistake.
