Moments into the second period of tonight's game between the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders, defenseman Adam Pelech suffered a significant injury. As Pelech fell behind the net, his teammate Robin Salo's skate comes down right above Pelech's left ankle.

Pelech was clearly in pain and agony, as he was unable to get up without assistance. The game was immediately halted by officials to ensure that Pelech received immediate care. Pelech was taken immediately to the dressing room.
Pelech has had a career year for the Islanders putting up 28 points, in what has been an extremely disappointing year for the Islanders.
Update: It appears Pelech avoided significant injury and has returned to the Islanders' bench.
