Johnny Gaudreau picked the perfect time to have the best season of his career. "Johnny Hockey" as he's affectionately known, put up 115 points this past season. Fortunately for Gaudreau it came in a contract year allowing him to maximize his potential payout.
According to NHL Insiders, the Flames have made multiple contract offers to try and retain Gaudreau's services.
However, Hockey Insider Nick Kypreos believes the Gaudreau situation reminds him of what occured between John Tavares and the New York Islanders. When the Captain chose to leave the Islanders for his childhood team the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kypreos believes Gaudreau will likely be a Philadelphia Flyer come Free Agency on Wednesday at noon. The other two teams Kypreos suggested Gaudreau could also end up was the New Jersey Devils or New York Islanders.
Once the clock strikes midnight the Flames will no longer be able to offer Gaudreau an eight year deal, effectively negating their advantage for Gaudreau.
