NHL announces punishment for Ryan Hartman's 'gesture' at Evander Kane

By now everyone has heard about Ryan Hartman flipping off Evander Kane after a scrum during last night's game. The incident happened in the 3rd period and can be seen at the link below.

This gesture is an interesting case, because unlike most supplemental discipline this incident bypasses NHL Player Safety and is immediately handled by NHL Hockey Operations. NHL Hockey Ops didn't waste anytime issuing Hartman his punishment.

Minnesota's Ryan Hartman has been fined $4,250, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Unsportsmanlike Conduct during last night's game against Edmonton.

A $4,250 fine to flip off Evander Kane is something that likely won't bother Hartman and has likely generated far more revenue through media attention for both the Minnesota Wild and the NHL.

Ryan Hartman was asked about a potential fine last night and simply replied, "it'll be well worth it."

I'm sure Hartman still feels that way this morning.
