Ottawa Senators forward ejected for rarely called penalty (Video)
During tonight's game between the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning, Senator's forward Dylan Gambrel was ejected for an elbow to the head of Erik Cernak. The hit occurred during the second period and immediately went Cernak to the ice.
The surprising part of this penalty is that Gambrel wasn't ejected for an elbow or even an illegal check to the head. The referee on the ice ejected Gambrel for what he deemed "intent to injure".
Cernak quickly returned to the game and hasn't shown any ill effects.
