Konstantin Koltsov's Ex At Odds With Police Over What Led to his Passing
The ex-wife of former NHLer Konstantin Koltsov believes a police report into his death is not accurate.
The ex-wife of former NHLer and KHL coach Konstantin Koltsov is speaking out, saying she does not believe the police report on her former husband's death. Yulia Mikhailova says police in Miami are wrong in their assessment of the situation.
Koltsov and Mikhailova have three children after a marriage that ended in 2020. She told a media outlet in Belarus that she was still in regular contact with him and sincerely doubts the police report that says Koltsov most likely jumped out the window of his hotel in the Miami area.
"Empty alcohol bottles were found in the room where Konstantin stayed. There was a balcony overlooking the ocean. Probably Konstantin did not keep track of his actions."
Mikhailova insists there were absolutely no signs that Koltsov would do anything to hurt himself.
"Right now it is impossible to say for sure whether it was suicide or an accident. Anything, of course, can go to your head, but there was no sign of tragedy.
I think it was your colleagues (journalists) who misunderstood something. Or they passed off the police's assumption of s----de as a fact."
Mikhailova said she accessed a family computer after Koltsov's death that showed he had rented a car for a long period of time, and had booked apartments in the US for well into the future. She believes those are signs that Koltzov would not have harmed himself.
Koltsov played parts of three seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2002 to 2006. He was teammates with both Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby while they were playing for the team at the same time. After retiring, he became an assistant coach with the KHL's Salavat Yulaev Ufa, a position he still held at the time of his death.
