Ottawa 67's Mourn The Tragic Loss Of A Young Hockey Player With Ties To The Organization
The Ottawa 67's recently announced the tragic passing of a young hockey player, who happens to be the cousin of one of their bright young stars.
The hockey world has been through way too many tragedies in recent years, but unfortunately, they just keep on coming, as the Ottawa 67's have revealed a tragic passing close to the organization.
Recently in Cornwall Ontario, there was a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of three people, with the 67's posting about the tragic event on social media, revealing that one of the people involved were 16-year old Maddy Duval.
Duval was the cousin of 19-year old 67's standout Bradley Horner, and a fantastic hockey player in her own right, as she was a goaltender with the Glengarry Highlanders, and a standout player for many years with the organization.
After her passing, Duval's family announced the creation of the Maddy Duval Defender of the Crease Foundation, which will support initiatives that help young girls get better and more consistent access to hockey to continue promoting the game.
While this is certainly a beautiful way to pay tribute to the life of someone gone way too soon, this is the type of tragedy that simply shouldn't continue happening, as motor vehicle accidents have continued to be way too common in taking the lives of people.
We take this time alongside the Ottawa 67's to send our condolences to Duval's family, friends, teammates, coaches and anyone that knew the bright, passionate young lady that she was, as well to Horner and the 67's family, and hope that the Foundation set up in her honour can continue doing great things for young girls that want to make a future in hockey.
Rest in Peace, Maddy Duval.
