Fans of the New York Rangers were furious with referee Wes McCauley for the way this morning's game was called.
The Rangers season has been very disappointing to fans who were expecting the team to easily make the playoffs.
In fact, things have gone so poorly for the team that they are more likely to miss the playoffs than not.
As such, every game from here on out is critical for the organization.
Luckily for him though, his lineup decisions worked out today as the Rangers took down the Canucks 5-3.
That being said, the Rangers were thoroughly dominated on the ice as the Canucks outshot them 39-11. It was essentially dumb luck that the Rangers won the game.
However, there was another big storyline that came from the contest, and it has to do with the officiating.
Rangers fans were furious with the calls or the lack thereof as the Canucks were given three powerplays to the Rangers one.
One play that stood out to many fans was defenseman Will Borgen getting hit with a high stick that resulted in him bleeding, but there was no call even though double minors are now reviewable.
Many fans took to social media to vent their frustrations with some calling it one of the worst officiated games they had ever seen. Some fans even called on McCauley to retire.
That being said, Canucks fans were also dissatisfied with the officiating as one scrum led to
Jake Debrusk getting a penalty for being near the goaltender?
With the win, the Rangers move into a tie with the Canadiens for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Canucks on the other hand, remain three points behind the St. Louis Blues for the final spot in the West.
