Former top prospect abandons NHL dream, signs contract for 5 years with another team

Some players just aren't meant to play in the National Hockey League. Whether they can't handle the pressure at the game's highest level, they never get an opportunity, or the chance for making money is higher overseas,

Whatever the case may be, a 22-year-old forward has abandoned his NHL dream and signed a 5-year deal in Sweden, take a look:


Filip Hallander, once a top prospect in the Pittsburgh Penguins system, was drafted in the second round (58th overall) in 2018 but only ever played 2 games in the NHL. He did have 33 total points in 43 games played in the AHL last season, though.


While he was never really able to crack an NHL lineup, he was no slouch when it came to putting up points in other leagues.

Going back to Sweden is undoubtedly not only one of the best decisions for his career at this point, but he's also closer to family as well
