Top trade deadline target refuses to waive his no trade clause for the Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers are doing everything in their power to try and bolster their lineup ahead of the post season. After trade talks to acquire Erik Karlsson stalled, the Oilers turned their attention to other options. That forced the Oilers to contact the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chicago is in fire sale mode for the second year in a row, very few are safe as the March 3rd trade deadline approaches, but it doesn't help when a player that has generated significant interest blocks a trade to a team that could provide one of the most lucrative returns.

According to Mark Spectre of Sportsnet, Blackhawks defender, Jake McCabe has modified his no trade clause a little bit, but has still blocked a trade to the Edmonton Oilers.





McCabe, 29 has been a serviceable defenceman for the Blackhawks this season, mostly on the defensive side of the puck. In 54 games this season, he's collected 2 goals and 17 assists for a total of 19 points.

It seems that even though the Oilers have been forced out on McCabe, they still have interest in the Blackhawks rosters, mainly Sam Lafferty, but in terms of defensive help, they'll need to go elsewhere.
